Potts plans charity walk for Haiti

March 10, 2010

Classical singer Paul Potts is going the extra mile for charity - he's walking from his hometown in Wales to London to raise money for children orphaned in the Haiti earthquake.

The opera star, who won the 2007 series of Britain's Got Talent, is currently in training for the upcoming 190-mile (305-kilometre) trek, which will take him from his house in Port Talbot, South Wales to the British capital.

Potts will embark on his journey later this month (Mar10) and is due to arrive in London in time to perform at a fundraising concert for SOS Children, the foundation his walk will benefit.

He says, "When I was asked to take part with Classic Response for SOS Children's efforts in Haiti, I said count me in! The cause has since become my own, which is why I've chosen to conduct my own fundraising walk in the hope that, with our combined efforts, we can raise the funds required to help the orphans of Haiti with the medical care, food and education they so desperately need."
